About HOA Fiscal
HOA Fiscal is HOA management software for associations that run themselves. It was built by Doug McLain, who has audited, managed and prepared tax returns for homeowner and condominium associations for more than 20 years, and it is the platform behind Dynamite Management's financial services and the HOA Board Minutes meeting software.

Who builds HOA Fiscal
Doug McLain is the founder of HOA Fiscal and a partner in Dynamite Management, LLC. He has provided audit, management and tax services to homeowner and condominium associations for more than 20 years. Before Dynamite Management he was a partner in C.O.R.E. Services, LLC, a firm that audited and prepared tax returns for associations across the United States, and he participates in the Oregon and Washington chapters of Community Associations Institute (CAI).
He is a co-author of Trade HOA Stress for Success: A Guide to Managing Your HOA in a Healthy Manner (2014, with Richard Thompson and Erik Wecks), a board of directors' guide to running an association.
HOA Fiscal exists because of what he saw as an auditor: associations paying for management and still not getting an accurate financial statement. The software does the fund accounting the way an auditor expects to find it, and the guides on this site cover the accounting, tax and statute questions boards ask most.
Three companies, one team
HOA Fiscal, Dynamite Management and HOA Board Minutes are run by the same people from Vancouver, Washington. They are three ways of solving the same problem, depending on how much of the work a board wants to do itself.
The software. A board sets up the association itself and runs the accounting, payments, meetings, elections and records on one platform.

The HOA Fiscal blog covers accounting, budgets, taxes, software and the state laws that govern association boards. Every guide follows the same rules:
- Statute claims are checked against the official text. Each state's rules are verified on the state legislature's own site before publication, and the guide cites the section it relies on so a board can read the source.
- Every guide is dated. Posts show their publication date and, when revised, the date of the last update. Laws change every session; a guide that is out of date is corrected, not left standing.
- Pricing is stated plainly. When a guide compares software or services, including our own, it gives the real numbers and says when a competitor is the cheaper choice.
- Nothing here is advice for a specific association. The guides are general information. A board facing a specific legal or tax question should consult an attorney or CPA licensed in its state.
